Character Counts at Walt Disney School! We encourage everyone to practice the 3 Be's at school and in their community!

  • BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE SAFE!

    Our Character Journey:
Pennsylvania School of Character LogoIn 2013, we created a committee consisting of staff, parents and students to create a positive learning environment at Walt Disney Elementary School. The committee developed "Cool Tools" or lesson plans that teachers use throughout the school year to teach students the expected behaviors at school. Our "Cool Tools" focus on all areas of the school including, but not limited to the classroom, hallway, bathroom, playground, assemblies and buses. Students that are randomly "caught" practicing the three Be's can earn a Disney Dollar to hang on our Principal's 100 Board. This work has helped us to accomplish recognition as a No Place for Hate School (2019), State School of Character (2021), National School of Character (2016) as well as Pennsylvania PBIS Participant (2021).

    Giving Back:
Through our character education program we teach students to be respectful, responsible and safe not only at school, but also in their community. We take pride in giving back to our community! Each year, the school holds several events where students are given an opportunity to give back to the community that supports us. Annually, we hold a Thanksgiving food drive where we feed 30 local families a complete Thanksgiving Meal. We also participate in our districtwide MLK Day of Service, Pennies for Patients, Hoops for Hearts and much more!

2021 has been an exciting year for Walt Disney Elementary School! We were named a State School of Character in 2021 and a PA PBIS Participant. We continue to work with Character.org and will be applying to be recognized as a National School of Character. Wish us luck!

    Word of the Week (WOW):

Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support 2020-2021 Participant logoWith every new week comes a new word at WDE. Weekly we introduce students to a new character trait via our morning announcements. The character trait is defined and discussed throughout the week. Students can write down and share examples of the character trait that they witnessed throughout the week. At the end of the week examples are shared on the morning announcements. Some WOW examples include, but are not limited to, respectful, responsible, safe, empathy, empower, kindness, unity, honesty, compassion, academically driven, diversity, motivation, etc.

    How can families get involved?
We ask that you model the three Be's for your child at home and in your community.
